The more I think about it, the more ironic Thanksgiving gets. 

People all sit down at a dinner table, and then give thanks to everything they have in their lives. 

Then they wake up in the wee hours of the next morning and blow out their wallets on new clothes, new shoes, new computers, and more new clothes.  As if to say, “my life yesterday wasn’t that great; I need more new things to make it better”.

I guess society has downplayed the meaning and act of being thankful.
